On 24 April 2019, WeAreDots, SIA concluded agreement No.1.1.1.1/18/A/183 with the Central Finance and Contracting Agency on the implementation of the project “iTrEMP: Intelligent Transport and Violations Management System” (hereinafter referred to as the Project) with the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science as an involved cooperation partner.

The aim of the project is to develop an innovative platform for collecting, disseminating and managing traffic data, which could serve as a basis for the development of new products that would support more environmentally friendly and efficient city management.

There are quite a lot of available data sources in cities nowadays. Some of these data are available in the form of open data, but part through closed interfaces of sensor developers that are not readily available for automatic analysis and decision-making support. Although this is generally sufficient for the simplest analytical tasks (e.g., induction sensors for car counting to determine traffic intensity or determination of licence plates on photo radar images), they do not allow to get a more complex overview of the situation, because the various systems are often incompatible and do not have a common interface to complement their functionality. The platform created within the project will serve as a storage and router for all available information, as well as by providing standardised interfaces for the acquisition of data from simplified new sensors, enriching data among themselves, correctly managing data considering privacy requirements of individuals, at the same time serving as the basis for new products and services for managing and analysing future traffic in urban areas.

The platform will allow city management to provide businesses that create innovative data processing solutions access to specific types of data, with the necessary level of anonymity and standardisation, thus laying the foundations for more efficient public/private cooperation, as well as reducing costs and increasing cooperation between innovative companies and obtaining support for more efficient and environmentally friendly decision-making. It will support innovation as an improved acquisition of metadata on traffic events by promoting better analysis, global level traffic analysis on incoming and outgoing daily traffic, and occasional tourist traffic, or improved detection of anomalies – aggressive driving, unauthorised parking or traffic accidents, etc
